John Sulsberger was an All-Ohio tackle at Zanesville High School.
His jersey No. 70 was the first of only two to be retired
in the history of Blue Devils football.

John Sulsberger was a very active ZHS student.
He participated in Student Council and acted in school plays.
Here, he's in the middle of a school dance.
John Sulsberger, left, with his close friend, Michael Jackson,
who later wrote a book in honor of Sulsberger entitled "His Name is John."
This photo was taken by Dr. Sulsberger the night two-a-day practices ended,
and after John Sulsberger had made the comment earlier that day
that the natural valley below them would make a great site for a football stadium.

John Sulsberger, a young man of vitality,
taken too soon ... but remembered forever at ZHS.
