 Seeing the light!

The sun had set and only the safety light behind the visitors bleachers shed much of a glow on Sulsberger Stadium.

Once the switch was thrown, it took a few minutes for the 1,500-watt metal halide lamps to come up to full brightness, giving the stadium an ethereal glow in the meantime.

Once fully illuminated, it was very apparent that the field was going to be much brighter at night.

The view from the west end zone.

And a view from a 50-yard line seat in front of the press box.

A scene reminiscient of "Field of Dreams" -- if you build it, they will come.

Paving of the west end of the field and the track began today, too.

Asphalt being layed down in the west end of the stadium.

The surface was carefully smoothed.

Later in the day, the attention had turned to the track itself.

With nightfall coming, the crew headed off for the day. The paving was expected to be completed on Thursday, July 24th, with installation of the rubber track surface to begin in about a week.
