July 21, 2008 - Early Grinding it out!
The asphalt that was the base of the track began to be milled in high spots today. Eventually, the surface will be pre-leveled to also fill some low spots, then given a smooth top layer before the rubberized track surface is applied. The excess asphalt was quickly milled off and poured into a waiting dump truck.

The west end of the field was still being done, as stone was brought in to help build up the area and prepare it for paving. The high jump will be contested in this area of the stadium.
Meanwhile, the last of the four new light poles were wired for power today. Here the electricians prepare to pull the wire up to the transformer boxes well above ground level. The bundle of wires were attached to a fishtape ... ... then pulled upward ...
... and then finally through the opening. Then it was time to get the wires attached where they needed to be attached. A test of the lighting system -- expected to run for about 12 hours -- may be run by the end of this week. A view of the field from the southeast corner. Beautiful! |
