 Pushing forward!

After a few days off due to weather, excavation continued as workers began skimming the remaining old turf at the west end of the field.

The concrete bases that once supported the 60-foot light standards were first jackhammered, then removed in chunks. What's left deeper underground will be covered.

One of the steel rods that secured the light standards to the concrete bases is bent back toward vertical by the bucket operator. The rods will be cut off well below ground.

The concrete walkways that abutted the track at each end of the main grandstand have been removed. A new curb will be poured along this side of the track, which suffered a lot of erosion damage in recent years.

Peeling away more old sod at the west end of the Stadium.
