Getting closer to excavation!
The first of the four light standards is lifted from its base.
The crane operator gently lowers the first light standard to the ground.
With the first standard down, workers move on to prepare the next one for
its removal.
Hey, somebody had to climb the pole and secure the strap and hook! Once that was
in place, attention turned to unsecuring the standard from its base.
The four large nuts securing the standard to the base had to be heated before they could be turned.
It took a large pipe wrench and a sledge hammer to loosen the nuts.
Carefully removing a still-sizzling steel nut.
The second of the four light standards is gently lowered to the ground.
Once all the standards were lowered, they were loaded onto a truck one by one, and removed from the stadium.
After the light standards were lowered, attention turned toward removing the
iconic "Devil Head" that sat atop the scoreboard. The neon-lit ZHS logo would
spew smoke after a Blue Devils score. It will be saved and used elsewhere.
The "Devil Head" is lifted away from its standard.
The logo finally comes down.
Remnants of the old scoreboard remained after the logo was removed. The logo and the "ZHS BLUE DEVILS" banner will be stored for now. The new scoreboard and 35-second play clock will be moved outside the fence at the same end of the stadium.
